The eyes come with their fair share of problems and health concerns. One of the major ailments is cataracts. This happens with age; as the eye gets old the lens becomes weaker. Cataracts cause a cloudy spot on the lens or cornea and vision becomes blurry. The lens of the eye has become denser and loses the transparency it once had.

Cataracts are the most common cause of blindness worldwide. In the United States, cataracts lead to visual impairment more frequently than any other cause, but-since most of them are treatable-cataracts do not typically lead to permanent blindness in this country. Cataracts might happen to someone who’s 50 or they might not happen until someone is 70. Cataracts in children are uncommon. Certain factors make it more likely someone will develop cataracts.

The first solution the eye doctor will give is surgery. Surgery is the only way to fix the problem; or so you have been told. They will wait until the cataract is big enough to remove with surgery. The whole left in the eye will be replaced with a plastic lens so you can see once again. This process is expensive and may only work for a short while before coming back in another area of the eye or the other eye.

Cataracts seriously compromise common activities, like reading, driving at night, watching television, or even walking in unfamiliar territory, but they do not always get progressively worse until you cannot see at all.

Cataracts develop when the main structural protein in the lens, alpha-crystallin, forms abnormal clumps. The clumps make the lens cloudy and impair vision..  Cataracts tend to “grow” slowly, so vision gets worse gradually. Over time, the cloudy area in the lens may get larger, and the cataract may increase in size. Cataracts are removed surgically when the impairment begins to interfere with daily activities

One of the main causes of cataracts is stress. Most people who get cataracts have gone through some seriously stressful situations or life a high stress life. They never take the time to relax and are always on the go. Another cause is a poor diet, high in cholesterol and carbohydrates and low in vitamins and fruits or vegetables.

You can take care of your eyes and reduce the risk of cataracts today by learning to relax the eyes and eating a more healthy diet. Choose foods that are high in Vitamins A-E and increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat. Try to live a healthy lifestyle which includes regular exercise, no smoking, and little to no alcohol consumption.

You are probably fairly familiar with the basic science behind sunglasses.  They filter out harmful light rays and take care of Your eyes by filtering intense light.  However, the technology behind sunglasses and creating new designs may have a few more tricks up its sleeves.  Even in 2007, sunglasses are reaching new heights of science and creativity.

There are many reasons to wear sunglasses, and everyone has one of their own.  Whether it is to mask a hangover, create mystery or escape the paparazzi, sunglasses are a part of everyday life.  However, often the true benefits of this popular accessory are lost when fashion or other purposes take over.  It may not be your only reason, but your best reason for sunglasses should be to take care of your vision.

.

Science has come a long way in correcting vision gone bad.  Corneal transplants help a blind person see again.  Laser treatment can restore your eyesight to 20/20 or better in mere minutes.  Even with all this technology, wouldn’t it be easier to take care of your eyes from the start?  By simply wearing good sunglasses, you will reduce your need for these scientific breakthroughs later in life.

The sun creates ultraviolet light rays which contribute to the heat it produces.  These rays, called UVA and UVB can cause irreparable damage to your retina and corneas.  If you’ve ever watched an eclipse, you know you had to do so through a pinhole in a shoebox.  This is because staring directly to the sun can cause great damage to your eyes.  Unfortunately, many people are unknowingly allowing their eyes to suffer the same fate by simply choosing not to wear sunglasses.

Such disorders as cataracts, macular degeneration, and even skin cancer around the eyes can be signs of sun damage and can be prevented in part by the use of sunglasses.  Cataracts are an eye condition that involves clouding of the lens behind the Iris and Pupil.Although no one truly knows what causes cataracts, studies have shown links between this condition and increased exposure to ultraviolet light.  Though we do not know 100% that this is the cause, it has been determined that people who habitually wear sunglasses have seen a decreased incidence of this eye disorder.

Sunglasses that wrap around the temples prevent the suns rays from entering from the sides. Some studies have shown that enough UV rays enter around standard sunglass frames to reduce the protective benefits of the lenses.   A . Sunglasses are a high profit low maintenance product. So you can see the potential for profit is very high.

Think about the last time that you spent all day in the sun and were really badly sunburned.  You probably took cold baths and slathered yourself in Aloe Vera.  It is a painful condition to be in when this happens to your skin.  Now, imagine what that same sunlight that gave you second degree burns on your skin is doing to your eyes when you choose not to protect them with proper sunglasses.  That alone should be motivation to hit the sunglass kiosk at the mall.
