Aviator Sunglasses – Making Pilots Look Cool Since 1936

In the 1930s silent film stars experienced eye problems from the glare of the lights used on studio sets, and began wearing sunglasses to protect their eyes. The lenses were designed to be large enough to cover almost the entire eye socket, and the slight curvature of the lens provided some additional protection from glare. Further, they incorporated the new “polarized lens” technology – another highly effective way to cut down on glare.
