Laser eye surgery creates exceptional visual results having a speedy recovery time and little discomfort. This is why it’s the most commonly used surgical treatment for solving: short- sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. Laser eye correction will be a 2 stage process that involves the development of a slim flap in the cornea (front surface of the eye) and elimination of a tiny level of tissue from within the cornea. Laser eye treatment creates the corneal form needed to provide clear eyesight without glasses or contact lenses. The corneal flap can be made with a blade known as the micro- keratome. This flap is normally created using the latest technology laser called IntraLase®. The IntraLase® laser, using its micron level accuracy, generates the flap with the laser beam without any cutting. There are several possibilities offered to our physicians, thus there can be some variance in strategies and equipment employed. Your actual laser eye procedure will be explained to you at length as part of your consultation process. The procedure outlined below is supplied as a basic manual only.
Description of the Treatment: The Lasik method requires about fifteen minutes per eye: Your cornea is anaesthetised with eye drops.Your doctor administers anaesthetic eye drops, and then applies an instrument known as a lid speculum to prevent you from blinking. A corneal flap is created. The flap is made up of a slim coating of surface corneal tissue. The flap is softly hinged back over the cornea to be able to expose the corneal ‘bed’.The corneal bed is re-shaped. Your lasik surgeon uses an Excimer laser to re-contour the corneal bed specifically for your specific prescription needs. The laser makes use of an ultraviolet light beam to correctly vaporise a pre- determined quantity of tissue over the cornea. The corneal flap is re-positioned. No stitches are required because the eye has natural suction capacity that holds the flap in place. Antibiotic and anti- inflammatory eye drops are applied. An eye shield is applied to protect the eye as it is in recovery. Both eyes can be treated on the same day.
Post-op Visual Recuperation: Individuals can return to the majority of activities on the day after lasik surgery. This is because the level of smoothness of the corneal surface is only minimally disrupted through the lasik surgery. Post-op Ease and comfort: The eyes should feel fairly pleasant the day after lasik. This is because the topmost layer of the cornea is only minimally disrupted during the procedure.
